HARVARDS POSITIVE PSYCHOLOGY LECTURE NOTES


HAPPINESS:
Depends more self esteem,social circles,levels of optimism, gratefullness,physical health,intrinsic motivated achievement
(ex. art), and less on extrinsic motivated achievement,money more than Rs. 30k and external circumstances etcc.
Creativity unlike popular belief improves with happiness.
BEING HUMAN:
Allow ourselves to accept that we are having a negative emotion and that its alright and in our nature  to experience
them..BUT with that info. at the triggering event we can change our decisions for the better. For ex. accepting we are
anxious we can prepare for it and even avoid its effects
BELIEF:
 What we believe ,we perceive ie we find and focus on things that support these and further conform these beliefs ..
Ways to change the beliefs ..
1.Prompting ..previous held information influneces our believes..to break beyond a boundary first we must relaize the
boundary is imaginary ..how use it : stiking inspiring quotes to walls ..listening to positive music,and other media
2. Self talk,convincing ourselves.
3.Imagining..Both destnation and path of a goal ,and making it as real as it gets
4.CBT ;cognitive behavioral therapy : More on it later
5.Learned optimism: Given below
Benefits: Skyrocket motivation,Break boundaries and plateus ,Achieve a state of mind when and where we want to ,to achieve
a desired success,Follow through a goal,etc
GRATITUDE
write 5 things you are grateful about your daily life on a daily basis. Become more happy,more optimistic, more prone to
achieve goals,healthier,be pro-social, increased longetivity
Learned optimism:
Optimism is a way of perceiving reality in a more productive ,positve way..IN learned optimism ,we consciously convince and
talk to ourselves in a way that we can FOCUS on the positves as well as garnering what we have learnt in a negative
event.ITS NOT THAT THINGS HAPPEN FOR THE BEST BUT WE CAN MAKE THE BEST OUT OF WHATEVER HAS HAPPEND.This is pertinent
because we are what we focus on.
Modality of an optimist:
Perceive
Bad event : in a temporary ,isolated manner ex. "It wasnt my day..."etc
Good event : in permanent,repeating manenr ex."People always seem to like me"
NOTE: The lecture suggests us to keep a realistic and flexible optimism ..rather than alter reality in any way
BEnefits : improve health and improive longetivity significantly,improve resillience ,self esteem ,builds a positve beliefs
system,which results in more energy ,work consistency and therefore more success , motivation ,
HELPFUL INFO : crying is a healing mechanism it is helpful and healing to cry,getting angry wont get you destressed it
worsens it .HAVING A SMILE on your face helps even if its "mechanical"

Empower mini drama

//Okay this is is the place where I write all those nonsense trivia /commentary stuff ..but unfortunately all I can say..Just comment for fucks sake..I wud b incredibly happy....:):)

Topic : Birds of a feather flock together


Narration:
Adersh was what you call one of those people who loved to love things so much so passionately..that they couldn't stop talking about it. Even to the point it ceased to become pertinent. He was essentially a geek. He was a geek for food,drinks and all that comes afterwards. He really was someone special.

On this particular day he was hanging out with his friend Annan. His ever so studious and loving compadre.

Scene 1:

(At Adersh's college,he is hanging out with his friend Annan .)

Adersh: Macha ,I went to an irrationally magical food festival yesterday. ,The thing is authentic shawarma always tastes a lot better with a bit more of the tzatziki,or the mash sauce . And these people are like gods man .They just know so well what to do and how to do it. Finely grated lemon zest, iceberge lettuce ,fresh mint they had it all right..And it was all going into my mouth. The Sheesh Tawook was just hanging there and perpetually moving around here and there(closing his eyes shows actions). It was just calling out to me man. I couldn't control my body . Go there or maybe here..Oh crap...I was just really so perplexed in this arabic Dilemma..Ohhh Gaaawd ...It doesn't end there .....
(friend interrupts)
Annan: Ohhh machane what will I do with you ,Your semester exams are about to start and all you could think of doing was go to a stupid food .
Adersh : Come on dude..You know how it is with food festivals..This one was really rare. They don't even come to Kerala that often .Ahhhh I would just like to kiss these people..They are like Govt. agencies. They don't give you what you want so easily ,but once you get it ohhh..!!! ohhh boy YOU GOT IT
Annan: There you go again. On your own journey. Come on Adersh , Let's not loose our focus here.
Adersh: Ok Ok I get it. Anna..But you could atleast listen to some of the things I am saying.
Anna: Ok I'll do that ,when you start walking on the right path
Adersh:(Annoyance made Ripples run through his face)Ok ok whatever then..See you tomorrow da.
Scene 2:
Adersh talking to himself: Ohh gawd why do people keep disrespecting, Even my best friend is starting to do this.. Will I die alone eating..in this unempathetic world.

Narration: Adersh decides to go to one of his favourite restaurants the star rated silver spoon.

Adersh:Waiter ! Can I have some chicken pho..
Waitress : Ofcourse sir ,what should be the seasonings sir.
Adersh: Just the traditional Vietnamese spices please
waitress:will do sir
Says to himself: Agghh this will cheer me up.. This is awesome.

Adersh overhears a Group of four people..sitting behind him .

Person 1: So you are saying you were mad enough to ask that old Italian house mistress how she made that Cicillian pasta. You could've been adjudged a privy person.
Person 2:Whatever,you didn't complain when you were eating it all up last Sunday. I really took an effort here. Appreciate me please.(with a smirk on his/her face)
Person 3:You (looking to person 1) ,you can't really complain here. You've done much madder things here. Remember what happened at ooty right.
Person 4:hehehe thats really true da. You saying this could be defined as an oxymoron .We all are really crazy foodies here.

Narration: Adersh having realized this could be his chance for making some similar people as his friends ,decided he should introduce himself.
He went and introduced himself and talked for a really long time. Until both the group and he himself were jelling really really well.
And hence he made a realization that it wasn't the people around him who was having  problems, but it was his in cohesive expectation about people being able to relate with everything was at fault. Ultimately one should really think about differences and similarities when talking about people .
